Polisher

Job Classification: Polisher/Machinist I
Education Level: High School Diploma or equivalent; Vocational/Trade School preferred, but not required
Experience Level: Entry Level; 1 or more years polishing experience preferred, but not required
Job Duties:

Able to perform all tasks responsible for the complete or partial manufacture of components and/or assemblies as directed by drawings, sketches or other form of instruction in support of the manufacturing process as it exists and may change from time to time.

Operates all types of conventional polish lathes and equipment with the ability to meet and hold close tolerances as determined by specifications:

Knowledge of digital readouts required where applicable;

Machine and equipment including, but not limited to, operation of two or more polish lathes, and including high-end skilled polishing and inspection;

Plans and performs setups, layouts and execution of work according to product specifications, blueprints, drawings and work instructions;

Determine proper operation sequence, selects speeds, processes and procedures and tooling applicable to the job and hold/maintain finish and dimensional requirements;

Uses special holding fixtures, counterbalances and counterweights for positioning and securing products in machines to assure balance and safety required;

Capable of using conventional and precision measuring instruments to hold all polish specs and expectations with out deviating parts.

Performs in process inspections, certifications and documentation as needed.

Understands and can effectively execute the principles of polish, including tool and material selection, geometry, surface finish while working safely.

Performs all work in accordance with plant safety rules.

Maintains highest quality standards in the execution of all assigned work.

Maintains all reports and record keeping as required.

Performs routine preventative maintenance on all machines as required.

Maintains house keeping in all work areas.

Performs other routine labor work as assigned and as required in accordance with production flow and/or plant needs.
Skills Needed:
-
Ability to set-up and operate polish lathes with safety and quality being 100% satisfied.

Ability to operate all equipment affiliated with the process of polishing and lapping of individual crankshafts.

Ability to learn & set-up and operate cylindrical grinders with digital readouts and Mar Poss gauging.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Ability to select appropriate feeds and speeds for cylindrical grinding to acquire correct finish and tolerances pertaining to that operation.

Ability to set precision inspection equipment to certified gauges and utilize in accordance with training/instruction.

Ability to achieve required dimensional and surface finish requirements routinely.

Ability and willingness to learn different aspects/job assignments throughout the shop as asked and as required.

Ability to work well with others and be flexible according to the workload and staffing.
